After months of school learners complaining about not having a library in Roodepoort CBD to study at, it finally re-opened on Monday, 19 November.
The library had been closed for renovations since 27 March last year.
The Record approached Ward 84 councillor, Gert Niemand, for comment and he explained that one of the delays was the fact that the library is a heritage site due to its rich history. He also explained that in the early 1900s the same building was used as the Mayor’s office.

The City of Johannesburg Heritage Department had to get involved with the renovations, which hindered progress. However, all is in order now, the renovations are done, and the library is open to all.
The library has been upgraded with free Wi-Fi for the community and school learners to use. The library is situated on Hodgson Street in the Roodepoort CBD, and can be contacted on 011 763 1031. The library is open from Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 5pm and on Friday and Saturday from 9.30am to 1pm.
They are closing for the Christmas season on Saturday, 22 December and will re-open on Tuesday, 2 January 2019.
