SA Teen Ambassador finalist believes the mind is our only limit

"Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them and may we raise them."

Sixteen-year-old Jenna Gillingham was recently announced as one of the Top 22 finalists in the SA Teen Ambassador competition, and her campaign was launched with a meaningful goal in mind.

Former American cyclist, Jamie Paolinetti once said, “Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless”, and this mantra is one that Jenna aims to live by. Jenna, a Grade 11 learner at Maragon Ruimsig, is a model represented by Ace Models Westrand. She has had a phenomenal 2018 which has culminated in her being named as a Top 22 finalist.

Her spectacular year began with winning the Miss Ace Models Westrand title, which led to her being signed by Ice Models Johannesburg following the Ace Models National Conference. In between making waves on the modelling scene, she jetted off to Miami, Florida to represent South Africa in the American Dance Awards where she won a number of gold and ultimate gold medals for acrobatics, contemporary and jazz.

The SA acrobatics team achieved its greatest success ever and Jenna was a member of the troupe that progressed to the dance-offs with their phenomenal routine, ‘Shattered Glass’ which saw them achieve an overall third place.

The culmination of the year of hard work came when Jenna secured a place as a Top 22 finalist in the prestigious SA Teen Ambassador pageant. Reflecting on entering the competition, Jenna said, “I entered the pageant to inspire all young girls to be confident about living their dreams, no matter what. I wasn’t always comfortable in the limelight and it took a while for me to realise that we are all unique and we all have a lot to offer. Here’s to strong women.

May we know them, may we be them and may we raise them.”
