Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester, and her Ward Committee hosted the MMC for Finance, Funzela Ngobeni, and key stakeholders from his office at a public meeting with interested residents.
The focus of the meeting was placed on the City of Joburg’s billing and budget processes. Key issues addressed included where property taxes go and how credit control is implemented.
The MMC acknowledged shortcomings within the financial department, the challenges they face and the mitigating measures that have been put in place. Ngobeni also indicated that key senior positions have been filled with skilled professionals to ensure a better turn-around time for residents and their queries.

While the CoJ does have a drive to collect more revenue in order to provide improved service delivery and more revenue for spending on infrastructure maintenance, customer satisfaction is just as important to the department. An undertaking was also made to train Walk-in Centre staff; and more convenient ways of logging queries are also on the cards.

These options will also allow for direct feedback to the customer, a means of providing customers with fast, effective, and efficient services. Residents were able to engage the MMC and officials on billing- and service delivery-related issues through a question and answer session after the presentations. Members of the staff in the billing department assisted with billing issues raised during the meeting until way past 10pm that night.
