Applications extended for Grades 1 and 8

The late applications are limited to schools that are not full.

Parents who have not yet applied for admission of their children that will be going to Grade 1 or Grade 8 in the 2019 academic year have been given another chance to apply by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

Parents have been urged to apply online using www.gdeadmissions.gov.za from 28 November until 7 January 2019.

However, the late applications are limited to schools that are not full.

“It is advisable for parents to be careful when selecting their schools. Upon completion of the application, documents must be submitted to the school immediately and placements will only be confirmed if the required documents are submitted within seven days,” said Steve Mabona, the spokesperson for the Department.

He added, “During the December recess, from 12 December 2018 to 7 January 2019, the Online Application System will be live and operating automatically. No officials will be available at the back-end to assist with applications; however, online video tutorials and the step-by-step guide are available on the admissions site to remind parents how to apply”.

“It is paramount to note that, as soon as documents are submitted and the system updates accordingly, a parent will receive an SMS specifying the school where the child is placed. No appeals will be allowed during the late application process,” Mabona said.
