The annual Peace Poster contest, run by the various Lions Clubs, was once again well supported.
The competition gives primary school learners of 11 to 13 years of age the opportunity to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.
Dee Easton from Clearwater Cyber Lions Club, which was also the convener of the competition, said, “This year’s theme for the poster competition, as well as the Essay competition for the sight-impaired learners, was ‘Kindness Matters’, and the participants’ works told a story of how kindness can make a difference in our world today. I had a panel of professional artists judge the artworks, to ensure the best were chosen.
“Participants were sponsored by a Lions club in their area, and the first round of the competition took place on district level. “The second round took place on a multi-district level, where the various Districts competed against each other, and if their entries were chosen as the overall winner, they would then have the opportunity to be judged by international judges against entries from all over the world,” said Dee
She added that the winners in the poster competition made it through to the multi-district level, but did not advance any further, “But, in our essay competition, we had an entry from Remmone Senoke from Pretoria that was chosen as the overall winner on district, multi-district and international level. We are extremely proud of her.
“All the winners, their parents, as well as Lions Club representatives, attended a special prize-giving that took place at the Wilro Lions Club, where they received special certificates.
Sandy van Heerden, the Public Relations Chairman of the Wilro Lions Club, said, “We want to congratulate Minke Grobler (Rustenburg), Ayanda Fono (Rustenburg), Katleho Mabindisa (Potchefstroom) and Chloë Rex (Laerskool Helderkruin) on their winning entries. We are extremely proud of them all.”
Chloë, who was the Wilro Lions’ participant, was awarded a fourth place in the multi-district competition, and was quite excited to receive both her certificate at the prize-giving, and a cash prize.
