Various readers have anxiously passed on a Whatsapp message in which the original sender claims that Johannesburg’s water supply has been contaminated with sewerage.
The message in full reads “On the radio they said there has been a sewage leak into our water supply in Johannesburg. Please boil all your tap water before using it for brushing teeth, drinking or cooking food. Please tell as many people as you can”.

However, Joburg Water’s spokesperson, Isaac Dhludlu, straight away said “It’s fake news. We carry no formal knowledge of any sewerage contamination but as a precaution we have tested Coronationville’s supply”.
He did not elaborate on why Coronationville was chosen to sample.
