The Chief of Police, David Tembe, personally placed the chevron shields on the new sergeants, who were also warmly congratulated by the MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun.
The sergeants will now be responsible for inspecting parades and ensuring that all officers are properly uniformed and equipped for the operation ahead. They will also conduct quality control checks on the performance of their officers. The position is managerial in nature and comes with huge operational and management responsibilities.
Addressing the sergeants, MMC Sun said, “Today is a very important day. You are not only promoted in rank but are also given more responsibilities in ensuring the residents of the City of Johannesburg are safe. You also have the responsibility to ensure the members in your command perform their functions optimally. You need to ensure that your members return to parade safely and you also need to take care of yourself. We as the City are extremely proud of your well-earned achievement and wish you strength in your new appointment”.
The newly appointed sergeants will begin their functions immediately. We look forward to an improved JMPD keeping the residents of Joburg safe.
