“I have been fighting the same battle for over a year, and I have learnt that with the kind of municipality that we have, I will always be fighting a losing battle,” said business owner, Amin Ebrahim.
According to Amin, for over a year he has been battling to get the municipality to permanently unblock the sewer blockage on the corner of Van Wyk and Croft Streets in the Roodepoort CBD.

He stated that the blockage is not only a health hazard, it is also a problem for traffic as motorists have to slow down to drive though or around the water.
“I rent out two shops; one is used as a supermarket and the other is a restaurant. Both of them are losing business due to the blockage and the horrible smell,” he said.
“I called Joburg Water and reported the matter. They gave me a reference number (8004 335 192) and I was told they would come out to fix it. That was almost two months ago,” he said.
As a last resort, Ebrahim contacted the Record, however, the paper is awaiting comment from the marketing and communication manager at Joburg Water, Isaac Dhludhlu.
