Joshua played a big part in the Afrikaans movie, Nul is nie Niks Nie, and the film director, Morné du Toit, had the following to say, “During our research for the film, Joshua Coetzee became our research partner. He was a warrior who really did face the dark and dreadful fight against cancer. Joshua selflessly shared his painful experience and helped me, the producing team and the young actors to tell a story that was truthful, authentic and real. Nobody will ever understand how invaluable Joshua’s influence was.
He helped us to understand and respect what a child who faces cancer really goes through. Yesterday, we heard the heartbreaking news that Joshua Coetzee had lost his fight against cancer at the tender age of 15 on 11 April 2019. Today I honour Joshua; a brave warrior who fought till the very end. Nul is nie Niks Nie is not just a film, it is a part of Joshua Coetzee and it will live forever. It’s a film that, thanks to him, will inspire and bring hope to those who might feel like all hope seems lost. My deepest condolences to Francesca Coetzee and the rest of Joshua’s friends and family.”
Messages of support have also been streaming in on social media.
