Princess Methodist Church blesses the community
They received food for the soul as well as the body
The hall at the Princess Methodist Church was filled with women of all ages from the nearby community, eagerly waiting for the day’s activities to commence.
Before the event was formally opened, they were engaged in excited chatter, as not all of them were sure exactly what to expect.
Queen Mgxaji, the Princess Methodist Church’s Women’s Fellowship chairperson, explained, “We gathered the women here today, because we wanted to hand over some handbags filled with goodies to them. The handbags, as well as the toiletries inside, were all sponsored by our congregation members, friends, family members and some community members.”
She added that they realised that many community members did not only have to go without food more often than not, but they also did not have access to some basic needs. “That is why we decided on our ‘Bless a handbag’ project. Even though it might seem like a small gesture, we really hope that it will make a huge difference in the lives of these women.”
The women who received these blessings came from Children’s Haven in Princess, Thusanang Pre-School in the Mhlangeni Informal Settlement, and from the church’s soup kitchen groups.
The morning kicked off with a message and prayer from the church’s pastor, Stephen Rudling, whereafter everyone had an opportunity to sing together.
Before the women left for home, they received a hot cup of soup and some bread, to ensure that not only their souls were fed, but their bodies too.
