On the evening of Friday, 3 May, over 100 people gathered in the Suzuki dealership’s parking area in Horison, before proceeding in convoy to Steve’s home, where people were given an opportunity to honour his life by laying flowers and having some tea. It was a very emotional event, as people could not hold back their tears while telling each other that Steve’s death has left a void in their lives.
Steve passed away on Saturday, 27 April. His memorial service took place at 11am on 6 May at the Dutch Reformed Church Horizon, on the corner of Mouton Road and Andries de Bruyn Street in Horizon.
The news of Steve’s passing was announced on April 28 on the Blockwatch’s Facebook page as follows: “More HBW members. It is with great sadness that we inform you of our chairman Steve du Toit’s death last night. We keep the family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
“We have lost a hero, a person who decided to live to serve his community. Our hearts are bleeding from this great loss. Our prayers go to his family for God to strengthen them in such a hard time,” said Yolandie Bawden of the HBW.
