Six injured in Maraisburg collision

One person was in a critical condition

Six people were injured, one of them critically, in a collision between a light motor vehicle and an SUV on 7 May.

The accident happened on the corner of 5th and 6th Roads, Maraisburg.

According to Russel Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson, paramedics arrived on scene just after 2.30pm. “The SUV was found on the side of the road against a pole, while the light motor vehicle was in the road. A woman in her 20s and a nine-year-old girl were lying in the light motor vehicle while four other patients were walking around on the scene,” he explained.

The patients were assessed and the vital signs of the woman in her 20s were found to be diminishing rapidly, as she had sustained numerous injuries.

The nine-year-old girl had also sustained numerous injuries and was in a serious condition. The four other patients sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Paramedics carefully extricated the two patients from the light motor vehicle, began their treatment and immediately initiated CPR interventions on the woman. Fortunately, after some time, the woman’s vital signs returned. Once all the patients had been treated, they were transported to the Charlotte Maxeke and Helen Joseph Provincial Hospitals for further care,” Meiring said.

The exact details surrounding this incident remain unclear, but local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
