Roodepoort Police Sector 2 commander, Warrant Officer Johan Loots, is making strides in the fight against crime in the Princess Informal Settlement.
W/O Loots, who has a number one rated office in the province, introduced a neighbourhood watch at the informal settlement that only consisted of six members at inception.
However, due to W/O Loots’ commitment, the numbers have grown from strength to strength as he has continued recruiting community patrollers in the community.
In an interview with the Record, W/O Loots highlighted that the area has over 80 patrollers so far. He added that he requires more patrollers to bolster the Princess Neighbourhood Watch, but recruits have to undergo a vetting procedure.
He mentioned that some of the patrollers had already benefited from the initiative. He said a total of eight patrollers had been given an opportunity to work for the MEC of Public Safety’s office as patrollers in mobile satellite trailers. “Of the eight patrollers, four will be receiving a stipend from the MEC’s office for a year,” he said.
