Belly dance studio gives confidence to women

The studio's dancers have danced for quite a few old age homes and the old people just love it, even trying to dance along.

Shimmying Angels Bellydancing Studio in Weltevreden Park opened its doors to the public about six years ago to cater for women who want to feel beautiful in their bodies and who do not want to dance in big groups.

Members of the studio take part in this form of dancing to gain confidence and learn to enjoy themselves more. All sizes and ages are welcome to come and dance, there are no rules.

Studio owner, Debbie Wright Louw said, “Everyone is beautiful in their own way. I felt that if I can do it then anybody can”.

The studio’s dancers have danced at various restaurants and at some charity events as well. They have also danced for quite a few old age homes and the old people just love it, even trying to dance along.

Debbie said, “I have had 13 back operations with three discs still collapsed, a hip operation, a shoulder replacement and a knee replacement. A specialist told me that the best thing I could do was carry on belly dancing as another operation would be disastrous. I dance my pain away”.

At the moment, Debbie has six women whom she says are a pleasure to teach. The studio offers morning and afternoon classes, and will be adding evening classes soon.

Debbie encourages women not to be shy about having fun and feeling beautiful through belly dancing.
