Help spread some love this winter
A warm car engine may attract some outside or feral cats in search of a warm place to sleep

Winter is around the corner, our boots and warm blankets are already out, but have you ever wondered how animals keep warm?
The Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA is calling on the community to help them spread some warmth.
According to Mandy Cattanach, the manager of the SPCA, they need the following for the coming winter:
*Blankets
*Cat and dog food, especially tinned food
*Bed boards
*Carpeting
*Plastic dog bed baskets
*Dome cat beds
“People who are unable to make donations can still do their bit by ensuring that all animals in the community are taken care of and kept warm this winter,” said Mandy.
She provided some tips on how to keep animals warm:
*Keeps pets inside, especially at night.
*Try to offer your pet different sleeping places varying in warmth to allow them to choose where they are most comfortable depending on their needs during the day and/ or night.
*If you are unable to keep your pets inside, ensure that they have a warm, dry and solid shelter from the weather. If you are able and willing, you can also provide some shelter for stray cats in the neighbourhood.
*Make sure you have enough blankets and/ or dog sweaters for your pets, especially if they are short haired or sensitive to cold weather.
*A warm car engine may attract some outside or feral cats in search of a warm place to sleep. Before starting the engine, make sure that there are no cats under your car’s bonnet, by making some noise.
*Always check that your pets have fresh food and water. Especially when water bowls are kept outside, check that the water is not frozen.
