In celebration of Child Protection Week, the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) hosted the Annual Kiddies Games for at least 490 children, 49 caregivers and 40 staff members from the City’s seven regions.
The games are part of the Department of Community Development’s social cohesion programmes, geared to creating social cohesion in the City’s multi-racial and multi-cultural communities. The sporting codes to be played include ball throwing, ball dribbling, ball kicking, bean bag running, ball hopping, relay running and ring throwing.
The CoJ stated that, for the past six months, various Early Childhood Development Centres have been preparing for the games with the assistance of Sport and Recreation Officers across the City. Knock-outs were held to select the Regional Teams, each of which will consist of 70 children.
These fun games also contribute to the cognitive well-being and the physical development of the children.
