BCI Security issues alert to women drivers

BCI Security wants to alert the public about safety following the recent incidents in the area.

The recent crimes involving women driving alone and driveway robberies have come to the attention of BCI Security, which has issued some advice to help people stay safe:

• Always be aware of your surroundings. When you leave a mall, your workplace, airport or schools, look around for possible criminals following you, and once in your vehicle, immediately lock all doors.

• Always make sure your vehicle has enough fuel and that it is in a trustworthy, driveable condition and will not break down while criminals are following you.

• While on your way home, look around and identify possible criminals that might be following you. If you think you’re being followed, take note of the make of vehicle, colour and, where possible, identification marks like accident damage or stickers on the vehicle. Also try to obtain the vehicle’s registration number.

• If you believe you’re are being followed, switch on the live location in WhatsApp and send it to as many people as possible so that track can be kept of your movements. Where possible send this live location to your security company as well. Make sure your live location is set to more than one hour.

• In the event of stopping at your gate and then only seeing a suspicious vehicle or people, close your gate and drive off. Don’t wait for the gate to open and drive in. Suspects hope you do this so that they can trap you in your driveway. Drive to your nearest police station, security company office or public place.

• Try to vary your route when travelling homeward. Make sure you have the necessary emergency numbers stored on your phone, and that it is easily accessible

• When you arrive safely at home, let everyone you sent live locations to know that you are safe.
