The Parlotones’ Glen does it again!

'I was in two minds about taking on the up run and was behind on my training'

Close to 25 000 runners participated in the 94th edition of the Comrades Marathon – the gruelling 86 kilometre up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

Among the participants was Glen Hodgson, one of the members of The Parlotones, running his second Comrades.

He said, “I was in two minds about taking on the up run as I had fallen out of the Two Oceans Marathon earlier in the year and was behind on my training. In the end, arm-twisting by my friends at Sunninghill Striders and the lure of the treasured back-to-back medals got the better of me. With two weeks to go and under 700 kilometres of training since January, I decided to give it a go. I am so glad that I did.”

Glen said that once again the race was a great experience from start to finish, and he explained, “There was crowd support along pretty much every kilometre of the route. I ran with my fiancée, Morgan Ross, up to 40 kilometres, where I sent her on ahead. I plodded along for the last 47 or so kilometres and finally reached the finish line in 11 hours and 46 minutes – only one minute slower than last year’s down run.”

He concluded by saying, “I never planned to do a back-to-back Comrades, but in both of them the experience was so amazing and life-changing. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.”
