Matholesville engages in sporting activities for Youth Day
The Sports Forum said their focus is on lowering the crime levels and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Youth Day was celebrated in style in Matholesville on Saturday, 15 June and Sunday, 16 June, as they held a sports tournament.
The Matholesville Sports Forum, together with all the netball and soccer teams, hosted a tournament, which was aimed at making a difference in the community.

“Through this tournament, we aimed at attracting an ever-increasing number of like-minded individuals who seek to make a positive difference, to both themselves and those around them through sports,” said Ayanda Cetywayo, the Public Relations Officer for the Mathole netball team.
The Forum said their focus is on lowering the crime levels and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“We are investing our efforts in not only playing sports but also giving attention to and celebrating Youth Month. All this was done in the spirit of acknowledging the struggles of the past but also using sports to deal with the social ills that exist among the youth,’’ added Ayanda.
There were four teams that participated in the netball, namely the Mathole netball team [the hosts], the Leratong Young Stars, Diamond netball team and Eagle girls netball team. The final was between the Diamonds and Leratong Young Stars. The score at the final whistle was 20–22 to the Leratong Young Stars, who were then named the champions.
For football, eight teams entered and the final game ended in penalties. The teams that were present were the Mhlangeni FC, Celtic FC, Amazulu FC, Gabola FC, Heneken FC, RSA FC, Indwe FC and Jerusalem FC. Indwe FC took on Mhlangeni FC in the final, but the match ended in a goalless draw, forcing the teams into a penalty shootout. Indwe won by six goals to Mhlangeni’s five.

“It was a tough yet interesting tournament. None of the teams wanted to give in, they all gave their all to walk away with the trophy, but only one team could win. Thank you to all the teams who took their time to be part of the tournament,” said Ayanda.
At the end of the tournament, every participant received a medal for their hard work.
The founder and coach of Mathole Stars, Agnes Cetywayo said, ”We would like to thank the Gauteng Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Department for partnering with the Sports Forum in this initiative to uplift and develop the community through sports.”
The Mathole Sports Forum is appealing to the community to help sponsor the upcoming tournament that will take place on 6 and 7 July. Anyone who is willing to sponsor, can contact Agnes on 076 691 1240.
