Learners to up their game to 90 per cent

Lesufi wants a 90 per cent pass rate from the current matriculants.

The MEC for Education and Youth Development, Panyaza Lesufi, has challenged Gauteng’s Grade 12 learners to produce a 90 per cent pass rate for the year 2019, following the 87 per cent pass rate produced in 2018.

“Our children are no longer just competing with other provinces, they are competing with the world.” This was Lesufi’s message when he visited the Tshwane University of Technology to interact with the learners and educators participating in the Secondary School Improvement Programme (SSIP) holiday classes. The SSIP is the department’s intervention programme to support learners by offering free tuition classes on Saturdays and during school holidays.
