ProTouch achieves its 1st European podium

Kent Main did not take to the start line due to illness; the second member of the team down to some foreign lurgy.

In stage four of the Course Cycliste de Solidarnosc in Poland, ProTouch achieved its first European podium, which might, with good planning and a little bit of luck, be the first of many to come.

Stage 4 was another real tester as it started and finished with a few drops of rain, but the 168km in between were on fire.

A big part of ProTouch’s plan worked on the day and whilst trying to build on this success and continue to improve, the cycling gods also threw a few curve balls to take the high away very quickly.

Kent Main did not take to the start line due to illness; the second member of the team down to some foreign lurgy.

Jayde Julius had to score points on at least one of the KOM (King of the Mountain) primes and he was super vigilant after the first KOM where none of the riders chasing the KOM scored any points.

Jayde attacked with about 500m to go to the KOM and as one of the riders tried to follow him, their wheel slipped and he fell onto the commissair’s vehicle.

He managed to continue but by this time Jayde had crossed the line and would now deservedly have the KOM jersey on his shoulders for the start of the final stage.

Calvin Beneke’s crash caused a split in the race, and Clint Hendricks and James Fourie both had their work cut out to remain in the first and second bunches on the road respectively.

Jayde and his two allies for the day were caught and it was now a crazy dash for the finish line with two 3.8km laps of a hot dog circuit. Jayde positioned Clint well for him to finish 10th on the stage.
