The EARTH Centre is grateful for yet another sponsorship by two companies, Pro-Opt and Just Get Wood, which designed, installed and donated a hoist to assist with the daily horse riding therapy offered by the facility.
“We were approached by Natalie Stobaus from the centre as they had a problem with lifting children onto horses. With this installation, they do not have to lift the children with their hands any more; the hoist will be doing the job for them. The lift has a hydraulic system which enables the lifting of the children,” said Xavier Meeuwissen, an engineer, who added that the system allows a person to get on and off the horse within minutes.

Nicole Ras, the marketing coordinator for the centre, added, “The idea behind the hoist is for our heavier and more disabled riders to be more comfortable and safer when getting onto the horse, and also to help our instructors who now do not have to physically lift a child onto the horse,” she explained.
The companies demonstrated how the hoist functions on Mandela Day, 18 July.
