"I had one parent who commended me when we did the trial run, and she said this is a good initiative to keep the children out of the streets."

Charlie Walters is calling on all interested youngsters to join his drama club, which will be operating every Wednesday, starting from 7 August, in the Witpoortjie Library.
Walters said the classes will run from 3.30pm till 4.30pm and will be for anyone between the ages of 11 and 17 years.
“I have spoken to Marlene, the Witpoortjie librarian, who has agreed to let us use the space in the library. The drama club has absolutely no charge, it is free. It will be a platform for the young ones to show their creative side or even grow it. They may be shy and lacking in confidence, but these classes will allow them to acquire the confidence required to stand in front of people,” he said.
The classes will also teach them how to speak and market themselves. He explained that he will be doing different scenes every week and then package them at the end.
“After doing the scenes, we will polish them and after 10 or 12 weeks, we will have all the scenes that they have been working on packaged into a production. The classes will include things like physical theatre, voice training, and everything else that is part of performing,” said Charlie.
This Good Samaritan, who is all about giving back to the community, said that he wants to share all the skills he has learnt from other actors and in school.
“Even if nothing comes of it in terms of pursuing a career in drama, attending the classes could help them in their respective careers or maybe in school,” said Charlie, who concluded by saying that in the future, he will be introducing classes for adults as well.
