On Saturday, 19 August, 1995, Phillip James Holiday, a South African lightweight boxer, won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world championship title.
Holiday is a former professional world boxing champion in the lightweight division who also competed as a welterweight and a junior middleweight later in his career.
Holiday was born on 23 May, 1970, in Benoni, and turned pro in 1991 after winning the vacant IBF Lightweight Title in 1995 and defeating Miguel Julio. He defended his title six times before losing the belt to Shane Mosley by decision in 1997.
