RiverWel RA invites public to annual clean-up

The clean-up will take place on the Cockspur Road bridge (between Wildebraam and Palmiet Streets), between 9am and 12pm.

The RiverWel Residents Association has extended an invitation to its members, their families, friends, acquaintances and visitors to join them at the annual river clean-up on 25 August.

“You are all cordially invited to participate in the clean-up, arranged every year as a sociable and valuable community project,” said the RA committee member, Neville Burnett, when he extended the invitation to the public.

The clean-up will take place on the Cockspur Road bridge (between Wildebraam and Palmiet Streets), between 9am and 12pm.

Burnett encourages volunteers to adopt the following dress code: “Wear head gear, boots or stout shoes, rubber or gardening gloves, old clothes and bring water bottles,” he said.

He added that plastic refuse bags will be supplied. “There will be regular collection points where the bakkie will pick them up. These will be deposited at the Cockspur bridge for Pikitup collection on Monday morning,” he explained.

“Community Support Services (CSS) will be in attendance to ensure that there are no unwelcome vagrants lurking around. Ward 126’s councillor, Dave Brand, will be joining us, and our committee members present will be recognisable in their yellow RWRA caps and shirts, should you require any assistance,” he added.

“After the clean-up, all volunteers are invited to Matey’s Pub at Ridge Terrace for a boerewors roll and a cooling drink,” Burnett concluded.
