The word of the day for 5 October is: Warrior.
‘Warrior’ is defined as a brave or experienced soldier or fighter, especially in former times.
Today, however, the word is often used to describe someone with immense strength and perseverance. While the word has always been associated with fighting, today the fight may not always be physical. We fight against our emotions, our health, our shortcomings, but we persevere. We are brave; we are warriors.
An exceptional warrior was the 18th century Native American Shawnee chief and warrior, Chief Tecumseh. This man was able to persuade large numbers of people to come together to seek a higher good. His definition of being a warrior was not to fight against each other but to fight for each other, to fight for good.
That is why today’s quote is from one of his speeches.
“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their views and demand they respect yours. Love your life, respect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long, and of service to your people. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero, going home.”
