Poorte look back on the 2019 season

For the first time in the club's history, the Poorte Player’s Player of the Year Award was shared by two players – Astley 'Spook' van Wyk and Brandon Rieck.

 

On Saturday, 12 October, RotoTank Roodepoort Rugby Club held their Annual General Meeting and Year End function at the classy Ramkiki Country Restaurant and Wedding Estate in Ruimsig.

The event kicked off with the annual general meeting, at which the Club thanked the outgoing committee of 2019 for their dedication to the club and wished the new committee the best of luck.

Club President Roxy Roux said, “A special thank you must go to the outgoing committee and good luck to the new one. We would also like to thank all the sponsors without whom this club would not exist. I would also like to thank our partners in the media, players and coaches for whom this is all about.”

The evening was full of joy and laughter as the club members gathered to look back on a season that had its ups and downs.

The big award of the night went to Brandon Rieck who was crowned as the Player of the Year, proving that his consistency in the midfield made a huge difference in the team.

Van Wyk was also influential in the Poorte outfit, especially in the first part of the season, which saw him score a total of 19 tries.

Roux said, “We are happy to announce that the club was found not guilty on the charges laid in connection with the incident that occurred in 2017, and wish to thank all the schools, parents and spectators for their ongoing support of the club.”
