Within three minutes, the first group of responders were on scene to find that an unroadworthy taxi was in the bushes on the side of the road. The brakes had allegedly failed while it was travelling down CR Swart Road towards the Wilgerood Road traffic lights. The driver turned into the Pick ‘n Pay centre and sped through the Engen Garage, and then tried to turn the vehicle to slow down and went over the pavement, knocked down a pole, and landed in the bushes. Thankfully the taxi missed the fuel bowsers, gas storage cage, and stopped before re-entering the road and hitting any cars that were waiting in peak-time traffic.

Apcan, Absolut Security, and the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) were first on scene, followed shortly by DMS, ER24, Emer-G-Med, and Dowry. The first responders were able to stabilise all the patients with first aid kits until ER24 and Emer-G-Med arrived to take over, finalise treatment, and transport the injured patients to Leratong Hospital.

According to emergency responders, eight passengers were taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries, including spinal and pelvic problems as well as dislocated knees. Thankfully no children were injured, there were no reported fatalities, and the driver of the taxi was also uninjured.
