Benji and Moon Date-a-dog is the journey to a new home

On 30 November the journey of a possible new family for a rescued dog situated at Durban Deep, begins by with the Date-a-dog

The seasonal Benji and Moon Date a Dog event will be giving ten to twelve CLAWbies (rescued dogs from Community Led Animal Welfare) a chance to meet their adoptive families on 30 November at the Linden Market.

The Date a Dog event is where the journey to a possible new family for the rescued dogs from Durban Deep begins. There they get an opportunity to meet their potential match, go for a walk, get some love and if the date was love at first sight, they can be adopted. For the adoption process to be finalised, a home check must first be done, and then the R850 adoption fee applies. This fee covers the cost of sterilisations and vaccinations.

Benji and Moon is an online pet shop based on the belief that every dog and cat deserves the best life, and it’s this love for all things four-legged (and one three-legged creature) and the pet peeve of having to hide hideous pet bowls and beds when friends came over that led to the organisation being started. “Benji and Moon exists to see South African artisans work around the world and for the world to change the lives of the dogs and cats sheltered at a little cause in Durban Deep Roodepoort called CLAW. Benji was the name of the organisation’s first beagle, and Moon comes from the phrase “Loving your pet to the moon and back”.

The organisation promises partnerships with local artisans whose craft deserves encouragement, support, pride of place and compassion, with 5 per cent of every purchase made going to CLAW.

Since its launch, the organisation has donated a portion of every sale to CLAW. “CLAW is a cause very close to our personal and business heart. They provide desperately needed veterinary care in communities where traditional vet care is not available and by default became a shelter, with veterinary care being CLAW’s primary objective. Benji and Moon wanted to help clear their runs by getting as many CLAWbies adopted, and this birthed the Benji and Moon Date-a-Dog event at which 55 CLAWbies have been adopted to date.
