Roodepoort rugby star dreams of playing in Dubai

The family is asking the community for any possible financial help to give this talented played the opportunity of a lifetime

Hoërskool Roodepoort’s very own rugby star, Brandon Olivier, recently participated in the Warthog Inn 7s rugby tournament, and was selected to be part of the Travel and Sport 7s Invitational Rugby tour team.

The players were selected by a panel of professional selectors, based on their performance during the Warthog tournament. The selected team will have the opportunity to travel to Dubai from 1 to 8 December 2020, to expose the players to the sport essence of the people and offerings of Dubai and to the various opportunities available to them, and may also serve as an incentive to those with ambitions of future success, which Brandon does not lack.

In 2018, he was chosen to play for the International rugby team that was selected for the tour to Georgia and this year he was chosen as the best 7s rugby player of the year.

Brandon was only five years old when his love for the sport began to develop, and since then he has been working hard to one day achieve his dream rugby career. “Since I was a little boy, I have been dreaming of becoming a professional rugby player one day. I am working hard to get the opportunity to run onto the rugby field wearing the Springbok logo on my chest and support and represent my country,” he said with a smile.

Each player needs to pay an amount of R36 500 for tour costs that are calculated against the current exchange rates, excluding visa costs, spending money, and the sports equipment that each player needs to provide. A payment towards the tour fees has to be made every second month, and the last payment has to be made by 30 September 2020 to secure the player’s spot and opportunity. The family is asking the community for any possible financial help to give this talented player the opportunity of a lifetime. If any one is willing to make a donation, please contact Barney Olivier on 062 046 2037, to get the needed tournament banking details.

“Rugby is a huge part of my life. This tour is such a honour and a once-in-a-lifetime prize. I would really appreciate any help to help me achieve my life-long dream,” Brandon concluded.
