Demi Schroder, a Grade 8 learner at Hoërskool Florida, was named one of the Top 5 finalists in the Junior Miss Elite South Africa 2020 pageant in the 12- to 14-year-old category.
The pageant, in collaboration with the Feed a Child NGO, is expecting of all finalists to show their hearts for the community by taking on various community projects and participating in charity projects.
At a very young age, Demi found her passion for modelling. “I enjoy being in the limelight, the glitz and the glamour, and I enjoy dressing up,” she said.
Modelling has been a tool for her to help her overcome her shyness. “It gave me the boost I needed to feel confident about who I am, make friends and follow my dreams. Modelling teaches you not to be shy, to get out there and make you dreams come true.”
That was exactly what she did, and has been raking in medals and awards ever since. Demi’s biggest dream is to represent her country as Miss SA and Miss Universe. “The only way I can achieve my goal of becoming Miss Universe, is to keep on training, do community service, and create and maintain a good, clean image. I can be an ambassador for our local community and country through the modelling world, and bring about positive change in the lives of all those I come into contact with,” Demi explained.
Becoming Miss Junior Elite SA is a stepping stone to becoming Miss SA, and for that reason Demi found herself signing up to participate in this year’s Elite SA competition. “I was very excited, and I am very proud of my achievement,” she said.
But, modelling and having a kind heart are not all. This elite student has also participated in various drawing competitions and received numerous rewards for her artwork from the National Eisteddfod Academy and the RACA.
She detests cruelty against animals. “I would like to see more serious punishment for people who mistreat and abuse animals. Animals should not be seen as property, but as creatures with rights just like us. I can achieve that by teaching children and adults the value of a good pet or a healthy stock of farm animals. People need to realise that animals provide companionship, protection and love, if we treat them well,” she said.
