A case of intimidation is being probed at Honeydew Police Station following a recent road-rage incident involving a renowned fashion designer, Fabrice Moyo, who was allegedly harassed after the alleged aggressor had bumped his car Friday, 6 December.
In a video shared by the Northsider’s mother publication, The Citizen, Moyo, the designer/ owner of Franc Elis, is seen filming the bakkie and two men. One of them hurled racial slurs and also attacked Moyo after the bakkie had bumped his vehicle.
Derogatory and vulgar language is heard in the video coming from the man believed to be the driver as he tried to attack Moyo for filming him. The man called Moyo ‘makwerekwere’, which is a derogatory term used for a foreign national in South Africa. Moyo is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Just before the video ended, the aggressor’s friend tried to stop him from attacking Moyo, while he warned him of exposing him.
In an interview with The Citizen, Moyo said the attacker later backed into the front of his car, damaging it.
“He called me the k-word. Then I started recording. He called me ‘makwerekwere’, drove in front of me and reversed back on me.
“Then he came out of the car and discharged his firearm … I ran for my life,” he said.
Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, who confirmed the incident, said a case related to the road-rage incident is being investigated at the station. No arrests have been reported as yet.
