The Zandspruit Youth Development Forum chairperson, David Mangena has embarked on a mission to restore the dignity of school-going children from Zandspruit.
With the majority of the learners from impoverished backgrounds, parents can barely afford to send their children to school; however, Mangena is planning to better their saddening circumstances.
This passionate role model in the community will be embarking on a Back to School campaign during which he will be collecting old uniforms and new ones from sponsors to donate to the needy at the different schools.
“We are trying to meet our community halfway as we understand their plight. Our aim is to cover what the parents are unable to provide for their children to be presentable at school,” Mangena explained.
To identify these learners, he said, they will conduct random visits to schools, including Zandspruit and Masakhane Primary Schools, and Far North High School.
“Identifying the learners will be conducted in a different way; we are going to monitor the learners as they make their way to school. That will help us decide whether the particular learner needs our assistance,” he explained.
Mangena told Northsider that he plans to deliver the uniforms on 31 March.
For this project to be a success, he appealed to the private sector to come on board and help with school shoes, jerseys and other items of clothing for the different schools.
