The Baby Moses Children’s Sanctuary needs your help

The Baby Moses Children's Sanctuary is running very low on stock in their pantry. They need the community's help to feed the 125 children in their care.

The Baby Moses Children’s Sanctuary staff have been doing their best to provide a place of safety and stability for the children in their care for nearly 17 years.

Founded in 2003 by Christo and Lanie de Klerk, the non-profit organisation (NPO) cares for abused, abandoned and orphaned children of all ages in Gauteng and the North West Province.

The sanctuary relies solely on community donations to continue with the work they do, and unfortunately with the current state of the economy, donations have been very low. To compensate for this, the organisation has put a hold on all trips and excursions, and will be putting measures in place to save as much as they can.

Despite the financial difficulties, the sanctuary will continue with their existing projects such as their veggie garden, tutoring initiatives, and their see-me-stitch project, which teaches the children and staff members sewing skills.

By restricting their 2020 plans and cost-cutting, Baby Moses staff members are not only hoping to save money but also to spend more time with the children in their care, helping them with their emotional needs and unique challenges. “One of our biggest issues is that, as orphans, they feel inferior. We try to address this and their social skills,” said Lanie.

Even with the plans to save money, the organisation is still pleading with community members to continue to donate to them. Currently, the sanctuary cares for 125 children and their pantry stock is running very low. Lanie said that the organisation’s most urgent needs are food and cleaning products.

The Baby Moses Children’s Sanctuary is asking for help with the following food products:

• Sugar

• Oil

• Cereals

• Milk

• Rice

• Mealie meal

• Soya

• Eggs

• Spreads for sandwiches

They are also asking for help with the following cleaning supplies:

• Toilet paper

• Dishwashing liquid

• Surface cleaner

• Toilet spray

• Fabric softener

“We thank all our supporters for your continued help, and pray that you will find satisfaction and reward through this,” said Lanie.
