Nature-lover hailed for cleaning up Welties
“I spotted him this morning at the intersection of JG Strydom Road and 9th Avenue. We thank you for your incredible service to our community,” she expressed.

Heaps of praise have been pouring in for a Good Samaritan who has started cleaning up the streets of Weltevreden Park.
This unknown man, believed to be an environmentalist, has captured the hearts of many whenever he is seen tidying up the streets that have been left filthy by the locals carelessly disposing of litter.

Resident Tami Naughton asked about this gentleman on Facebook, after spotting him on Wednesday morning, 5 February. “Who is this golden gem cleaning the streets of Welties? I spotted him this morning at the intersection of JG Strydom Road and 9th Avenue. We thank you for your incredible service to our community,” she said.
Another resident, Amanda Jose, wrote on Facebook that she had a word with the man regarding his good deed. “Wow, I just had to share this with everyone today. It’s not the first time I have seen this guy cleaning the Weltevreden Park area on his own. Got out of my car and spoke to him while waiting for traffic. What a humble, kind soul,” she said, adding that he didn’t want to be photographed, “and I’m fully aware why.
“He is not doing what he is doing for fame or to get any publicity; he is only tired of rubbish and dirt in our community. He says he does this three times a week; Monday, Wednesday and a Friday,” she explained.
She further encouraged residents to learn from this man’s efforts. “Come on guys, what an example, let’s do the same. I know a lot of us are working early to late and are not able to join this guy, but you can do your part even by just picking up a paper in front your yard when you get back from work,” Amanda urged.
“If you want to help this guy, you will find him on JG Strydom. Thumbs up for this guy and thank you for showing us that one person can make a difference,” she concluded.
The Northsider will try and track him down for an interview. Anyone with his number can email it to sison@caxton.co.za.
