At approximately 11.55pm last night, 10 March, City Power shut down the Penny Street Substation in Witpoortjie for emergency repairs.
According to a statement released by the entity, the shutdown came after a suspected problem with the main cable route from the substation, it was later confirmed that this problem was smoke on the cable route. Technicians were on site at the time of the announcement and updated residents of the three affected areas well into this morning, 11 March.
At approximately 1.20am City Power notified residents that an incomer had tripped at the substation so the power still had not been restored.
Witpoortjie, Grobler Park and Princess AH are still without power due to the issue, despite updates saying that technicians were still on site by 2am.
At 9am, Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin notified the Record that a contractor was en route to assess the issue and provide further updates.
No Estimated Time of Repair (ETR) has been provided as yet, but René said that residents would be looking at late this afternoon for restoration. Readers will be kept updated as and when information is received.
