A beacon of hope for all South African women

With her journey she hopes to inspire young women and motivate them not give up on their dreams and goals.

Mother, strong, empowering, elegant and well-spoken are some of the words that describe Chantel Hoffman.

The down-to-earth Chantel grew up in Eldorado Park, and is making her mark as one of the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa semi-finalist for 2020. During her school years she took part in local modelling competitions such as Miss Eldorado Park and Miss Junior Johannesburg, and has won both with her bubbly and outgoing personality.

She is known to be family-oriented and loves to interact with others. After facing some ups and down, and being blessed with two beautiful children – one them her Down Syndrome daughter – Chantel has grown more confident and stronger. “My daughter is my role model in life. She overcomes so many things on a daily basis, and she works through all the struggles associated with Down Syndrome. If such a tiny person could make it, achieve her goals and keep on trying, so can I,” she continued.

After moving to Roodekrans she first had her sights set on the Miss South Africa title, but due to not meeting the height requirements she was not able to participate.

When the opportunity of competing for Mrs SA came along, she decided to enter, knowing that her family and her daughter in particular were settled. Another main reason that she is on this journey is to prove wrong the criteria that have been glued to the modelling world. “I believe a women can be beautiful in any shape, size, race, and in any stage of her life. That is why it was so important for me to enter now that I am married and a mother. I want to give hope to other women and make them believe in themselves. I want them to believe that you can be beautiful at any stage of your life. I think one of the main things that I would like to prove wrong is the stereotypical view that you have to be skinny or a specific height or size or age to compete, or to be beautiful. You just have to be comfortable and happy,” Chantel said.

She hopes to empower, inspire and motivate young women not give up on their dreams and goals. She is also looking into reaching out to children with disabilities and to work on the struggles such as poverty that South Africa is facing. “If I am fortunate enough to become the next Mrs SA, I would definitely take on these challenges by empowering our women. I do believe that a woman takes care of a nation.
