Vehicle dealership shows its love for one of the Proteas’ finest

Fresh back from India, Rassie van der Dussen collects a brand-new SUV.

The close relationship between corporate South Africa and professional sport is vital to the sustainability of sport across the nation. KIA Motors Roodepoort gifted one of South Africa’s favourite cricketers a new set of wheels on Friday, 20 March.

For the better part of six years the new Dealer Principal of KIA Motors Roodepoort, James Aldhouse, has been in partnership with Rassie van der Dussen through his various car dealerships. “It’s great to have someone like Rassie on board. He is a fantastic athlete and a fantastic person. We are proud to be associated with him,” said James as he showed off the pristine vehicle.

Shimmering at the entrance of KIA Motors Roodepoort’s brand-new showroom, the fresh out the box KIA Sportage received one last dusting down to ensure it was in mint condition when the star batsman made his arrival. Chosen by Rassie himself, the two litre diesel comes with panoramic sunroof and 18 inch touch screen among a host of other top-drawer features. “A massive thanks to James and his team. It’s an awesome vehicle,” said Rassie before receiving the keys.

One young fan heard the news that one of his idols would be making an appearance, and he brought along his prized piece of willow. Laerskool Dr Havinga learner Matthew Olivier took the opportunity to get his cricket bat and cap signed by the top-order batsman.

Sadly though, fans will have to wait some time before they see any of the Proteas in action as the coronavirus obliterates international sport. Rassie can ride off into the distance as all cricket fans hope for some action on the horizon.
