Having adopted several precautions to minimise the spread of the coronvirus, Life Poortview Hospital further reduced its visiting hours.
The hospital restricted the visiting hours to one hour on a Wednesday from 5 to 6pm, and on a Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 4pm. This is limited to one visitor per patient within the indicated time slots.
Doctor Charl van Loggerenberg, General Manager: Emergency Medicine, Life Healthcare said, “At Life Poortview, the well-being of our patients, staff, doctors and visitors is of paramount importance and we are committed to creating a safe environment in support of infection prevention and control”.
Van Loggerenberg indicated that they had already put into action several measures to minimise the spread of Covid-19, including the provision of hand sanitizers, and a brief verbal travel history and wellness and/ or health check before entering their premises.
Regarding the visiting hours, he advised that the time slots might be amended at any time based on Covid-19 developments – and requested visitors to check with the hospital.
In addition, Van Loggerenberg requested children to refrain from visiting the hospital unless it is an emergency, as children have an under-developed immune system. “Persons over the age of 60 or who are immune-compromised must also avoid visiting patients at Life Poortview until further notice,” he cautioned.
He further assured that the hospital has a team of dedicated infection prevention specialists who are experienced and qualified healthcare workers, and have received extensive training and guidelines around the Covid-19 by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD). “Hospital management has ensured that our specialists and reffering GPs in the area are also aware of our preparedness,” he explained.
The hospital concluded by thanking the community of Roodepoort for their ongoing support and encourages everyone to take the necessary hand-hygiene precautions.
