A deserted Roodepoort during lockdown

While beautiful in their solitude, roads were meant to be driven and they crave the rubber and oil that would symbolise a return to normality.

The vast expanses of tarmac and asphalt stretch across Roodepoort like a spiderweb long discarded by the one who spun it. Save for a few hubs of those collecting essentials, a contemplative silence covers the community’s suburbs.
The contrast of the almost silent roads against the recent memory of the congestion and mayhem of everyday traffic illustrates the overreaching effect of the state enforced lockdown.
