‘#NoStationEntry’ pamphlets are lies, says Metrorail

Metrorail has dismissed reports that its trains will not operate from 2 July.

Metrorail Gauteng received several reports of a pamphlet being distributed that stated that Metrorail trains will cease operations on Monday, 2 July.

According to a social media statement made by the public transport organisation, the Metrorail Gauteng management had been made aware of a pamphlet that had been distributed to its commuters.

Metrorail’s statement said that the flyer was “creating an impression that no trains will operate.”

The pamphlet was reportedly printed with the title of “#NoStationEntry!! Azikwelwa!! Azigitshelwa!!” The final two terms are in isiXhosa and Zulu respectively, and roughly translate to ‘We will not ride’, or ‘You’re not allowed to ride it’.

Metrorail dismissed these claims in its statement, reassuring passengers of their safety, and saying that “Metrorail would like to reassure commuters of its commitment to providing safe, reliable transport to all its loyal commuters and to this end, the train service will not be discontinued unless safety is compromised.”

The company’s dismissal of the pamphlet and its contents thus assures commuters that trains will continue to operate as normally set out, and will not be stopped. The statement concluded with the addition of Metrorail saying that commuter safety remains its concern and priority.

Staying true to their word in the statement, Metrorail Gauteng trains continued with their usual schedule on the morning of Monday, 2 July.
