According to Viola Nwadike, founder of Give An Ear Foundation, who organised the event, microtia is a condition where a child is born without an ear and/or ear canal.
The 5km route went through the leafy suburbs and back roads on Rivonia which was followed by a family picnic.
Nwadike said more people joined during the picnic where representatives from hearing aid manufacturers and a specialist spoke. “Basically teaching about the latest technology in hearing aid implants and ear reconstruction.
“The purpose of the event is to create awareness for microtia as a condition and also for children and families to interact with one another and not feel like they are alone.”
