223 accidents recorded on the freeway #JMPDStats

Speaking at the announcement of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) statistics, Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba said police trainees would be delayed by a month and only 800 out of 1500 would graduate.
The graduation will take place on 8 December this year.

Chief of the JMPD David Tembe revealed that in Randburg and Rosebank, 75 arrests were made in August for driving under the influence of alcohol. He instructed officers to intensify their operations to also curb the number of reckless driving in these areas.
In Midrand and Diepsloot, 85 arrests were made for driving under the influence of alcohol, 3 053 citations were issued and 32 discontinue notices were issued.
In the inner-city, Braamfontein and Yeoville, R273 million worth of counterfeit goods were confiscated and 24 bad buildings were raided. Tembe said raids should be done weekly not monthly.
In Alexandra, Sandton and Bramley, 119 arrests were made for drunk and driving, 12 trucks were impounded for illegal dumping and 5 258 citations were issued. A number of 223 accidents were recorded on the freeway and 18 fatalities in August.
The K9 unit recovered 52 stolen vehicles in August compared to 13 in the month of July, 67 arrests were made, 15 firearms and 145 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Two cyclists, 11 drivers, 19 passengers, and 27 pedestrians were killed in road fatalities in the month of August.
The JMPD attended to 24 land invasion cases, demolished 405 shacks and removed 496 demarcations in August.
