From the islands of Samoa to Sandton

MORNINGSIDE – The Sandton Chronicle sits down with Rob Bentele for a brief catch-up session at his home in Morningside.

Heart-throb Rob Bentele, winner of Survivor SA, has left his KwaZulu-Natal home to come join us in the lush suburb of Sandton. After winning R1 million from the popular TV show, Rob opted to invest some of his prize money into property. Hidden away in the corners of Morningside is the place he calls home.

Speaking to the Sandton Chronicle, Rob let us in on his journey and life after Survivor SA.

After becoming a millionaire overnight, Rob would like to share his good energy with others and help. At the moment, he has started doing some acting classes so look out for the big screen. He is also working with some of the companies that endorse him, Japanese car brand, Mahindra being one of them and working on a show with Mnet.

“I am within the entertainment space now, so you will definitely see a whole lot more from me,” said Rob.

Determined to settle well in the space, he has learnt a few lessons from the island. One of the biggest ones was that what you give out is what you get back. “I’ve learnt that nothing bad really happens to you in life, what we perceive to be bad at the time is nothing but lessons and hurdles.

“We come here to learn lessons and if everything was easy we wouldn’t grow as people.”

The 29 year-old shared his story of enlightenment. “Two years ago when I was 27, I started thinking about my life and why things are just not working out for me in my life, I wanted to figure all of that out.

“And then I stumbled across universal laws – I became obsessed with it, it was me trying to put pieces of a puzzle together.”

Day and night Rob found himself trying to understand and then the positive effects started working.

“I started learning how to attract the things I want. At first, people thought I was going crazy,

“Initially what I was trying to attract was money. I wanted to get rich. Eventually, I attracted Survivor but the real big change in my life was when I met a shaman from the Amazon.”

Taking a leap of faith, Rob spent five days with him while he was visiting in Magaliesberg. “He did a couple of things to me, one of them was called ‘kambo’, this is the practice of using tree frog poison. He burnt nine holes in my back and inserted the tree frog poison into it.

“After spending days with this man, he told me, ‘Rob everything you want in your life you will have in a year’s time’.”

Soon after that, he found himself on Survivor and the island. “By this point, I already knew that I need to think positively and visualise myself winning, and yeah, that’s when I played, then came back and I knew I won.”

A motivational speaker as well Rob intends on leaving a legacy. “I definitely do want to leave my mark, leave a positive footprint.

“I want to try teach what I’ve learnt and help. I’ve been blessed recently, that’s what I want to try use this platform for.”

Not much of a club guy and newly single, Rob spends his time at a hidden gem in Kramerville called Razor Charlie, relaxing among friends and family.

“If I’m still single in 2020 then I might as well try out for the bachelor too,” he joked.
