Joburg voted world’s unfriendliest city
JOBURG - Readers of a leading international travel magazine voted Johannesburg the world's unfriendliest city.
South Africa’s Mother City, Cape Town, made it on the the World’s Friendliest Cities list, but only placed eighth.
The world’s friendliest cities, according to the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Survey, are Melbourne, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand, who tied in first place.
According to the website, Joburg’s ranking had more to do with safety and security than it did the personalities of its residents.
Participants in the survey described Joburg as “one of the most beautiful cities in the world”, but said “safety still remains a serious concern”.
“It is not safe to travel in Johannesburg independently,” said another.
The magazine did concede that Joburg “remains a burgeoning cultural capital with a stunning urban landscape, excellent breweries, and great shopping.”
