Entrepreneur on the rise

PARKMORE - Linda Manjate (35), a nail specialist at Natural Expressions in Parkmore is an entrepreneur on the rise.

Manjate has taken the road less travelled and is working her way up to the top. She knows that Rome was not built in a day and she is willing to do the time to pave her way to success.

She decided that she was going to take charge of her life in 2003 and do something with her life that she could be proud of. She registered for a nail course and sharpened her skills.

After her studies, in 2004 she rented a small place in Johannesburg and started doing people’s nails for money. “It was tough starting out, business was not good,” explained Manjate.

She realised that she was going to have to get experience working before she could open her own business. From there she went on to work for various beauty shops and spas, growing and improving in her profession as a nail specialist.

Then, one of the beauty shops she worked for sent her to Nigeria to empower other people and train them.

“When I came back from Nigeria in 2009, I decided to resign from my job because I felt I had saved up enough money to try and open my own business again,” explained Manjate.

She ran her nail business for nine months in Norwood, however, it became a struggle to maintain.

Manjate said she was learning a lot about the beauty industry since she had started working at Natural Expressions this year.

She continues to develop her skills and uses every opportunity to gain new skills.

“Hopefully one day I will have my own business.”
