Trial run at St Stithians College
SANDTON – A 5km trial run was recently hosted at St Stithians.
St Stithians College hosted a parkrun trial at the school to see what the interest would be.
About 400 people braved the cold and windy morning to attend the trial run which was not an official timed run.
According to Alistair Stewart of the school, they did not expect such a turnout which was just organised through word of mouth.
“It is organised under the auspices of the running club, Born 2 Run and not an official St Stithians College event, and the 5km route takes runners through the school grounds,” he said.
He said the route took runners on part of the cycle track at the school, through a forest and there was a tough uphill stretch for the final kilometre.
Stewart added that the school always had a lot of events on a Saturday morning, so they needed to hold the parkrun to see if it would be viable to host it there. He added that there was a need for such an event because most of the Saints community lived within 5km of the school.
“The trial will be hosted for three weeks and it is not an official run because of all the technology involved to time the runs.”
