Actress makes her mark
RIVONIA - Ambition, talent and drive explains Rivonia actress, Taryn Louch’s reason for being nominated at this year’s Naledi Awards.

he said the first time she was invited to the award ceremony last year she was just a guest. “I remember looking at the programme and saying, ‘This year a guest, next year a nominee’ and guess what happened? I was nominated.”
As she predicted, Louch scored a Best Breakthrough Performance/Best Newcomer nomination at the awards. She said, “I’m so proud of my nomination. It is an honour to have my work recognised in this way.”
Louch was nominated for her one-woman stage performance of Irene Stephanou’s Meze, Mira and Makeup. She performed the play at Theatre on the Square at Nelson Mandela Square last year and she said the play would be returning to the theatre again this year. “I enjoyed the challenge of playing 12 characters,” said Louch. “The audience members validate what I do,” she added. “I got a standing ovation every night at Theatre on the Square. All that blood, sweat and tears really paid off. I have been touring and performing everywhere.”
Louch (30) said a one-woman-show was on her bucket list of things to do and she was glad that she had now done it. “It was really meant to be,” she said.
She would like to do another one-woman-show in the near future. “This has been the biggest achievement of my life so far,” said Louch. “But everyone in this business knows that you are only as good as your last performance.”
