The road to the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival
BRAAMFONTEIN - Residents of the City of Gold and its surrounds recently celebrated the first annual Johannesburg International Comedy Festival and it was a success.
OPENING: Festival directors, Takunda Bimha and Gregoire Furrer, open the festival with the general manager of the Montreux Comedy Festival, Chloée Coqterre Bernier, and comedian, Orlando Baxter.
Comedians and comedy lovers in Gauteng made their way to Braamfontein and Newtown to witness history in the making by joining a number of international comedy acts onstage for the first time, in a jam-packed comedy weekend.
INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS: Orlando Baxter and Maureen Langan, both from the USA, fly into the country to meet with the festival director, Takunda Bimha, and prepare for their weekend of comedy performances.
GOOD TIMES: Prins VR, the winner of the Jokenation competition, will represent South Africa at the Montreux Comedy Festival and gives a thumbs-up for the comedy festival.
ONSTAGE: Donovan Goliath leaves the crowd in stitches with his relevant and relatable comedy performance and hilarious punchlines.
THE BEGINNING: Takunda Bimha, founder of Podium, a comedy agency, announces that he pitched the concept of the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival to a number of comedians and they all would like to participate in the festival.
SHOW CLOSES: Comedians, Orlando Baxter, from the USA, and Francesco de Carlo, from Italy, make their way out of the show and to the afterparty.
FUNNY: Lihle Lindzy strikes a pose as she takes to the stage to deliver the audience with some comedy.
PREPARATION: Australian comedian, Nick Cody, is backstage as he prepares for his first show and calms his nerves with a cold one.
FOR THE PRESS: A media briefing is held where journalists interview comedian Kagiso Lediga, among others, about his role in the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival.
ON THE 13TH FLOOR: Comedians, Nicolas Goliath and Francesco de Carlo, familiarise themselves with the venue and wait for the comedy show mayhem to begin.
