North West province songbird to flourish in Joburg

JOBURG – Music and majesty come in the form of a soulful voice.

Straight from the North West province, an aspiring gospel singer is pursuing his dream in the big city.

“I started singing from 15 years old in Magong,” said Lehlohonolo Moloi.
“My family used to have evening prayers every night. So I fell in love with music from that stage.”

Moving away from his hometown to the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg’s big city life, the only hope for the singer was to keep his inspiration in mind. “I have a few singing inspirations in my life. My cousin Oscar Moloi, Bishop Benjamin Dube, Khotso Makgalemela and a Nigerian ambassador Prince Okwu.”

Living in Braamfontein, in the pursuit of his dreams, he needed to identify what it was that would put him above his competitors. “What makes me different from other gospel singers is that I have the drive and willingness to go forward and the one unique thing about me is that I make my own gospel beats and they are all live instrumentals,” he said.

With determination and inspiration, he needed to put his talents to the test – and a positive reception is what he received. “People really like my singing. I keep hearing people saying that they have received their deliverance through my singing, because usually when I worship I close my eyes so I don’t really see what is happening. My singing is really spiritually deep and when I praise, I praise like it’s my last day on earth.”

Now confident in his capabilities, Moloi has officially released his first album and he is beaming. “It took me six months to complete my album. It has not been easy. We kept on recording from time to time and fixing mistakes that we heard, with my producer Mr Ngoni. We started recording from August 2016, however, I did produce some of my own gospel beats before I met my producer. It’s been long indeed.”

With 10 tracks on his album, Ao Modimo (Oh God), he is ready for the world to get a taste of what he has to offer.

“I am a humble person, simple and full of talent and I am ready to share it with the world,” he concluded.
